A historic success for the corratec UCI MTB Racing Team: Titouan Perrin-Ganier won the title at the Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships in Barcelona, securing his seventh world championship title overall.
After two difficult years in which he was unable to build on his previous World Cup and World Championship successes, the Frenchman impressively showed his class in Barcelona. Perrin-Ganier improved from heat to heat, reached the final in top form, and delivered a tactically smart as well as energy-efficient race strategy there.
In the men’s competition, the winner of the World Championship race in Barcelona secured his place in the history books: Titouan Perrin-Ganier claimed his seventh overall Eliminator world title, narrowly ahead of Sweden’s Casper Casserstedt and Portugal’s Ricardo Marinheiro. Fourth place went to Jakob Klemencic.
And in the final, the hopes of two of the four starters for the world title ended early: Jakob Klemencic and Ricardo Marinheiro were thrown out of the fight for world championship gold early due to technical problems, leaving Titouan Perrin-Ganier and Casper Casserstedt. Perrin-Ganier appeared less distracted by the misfortune of his rivals than Casserstedt, pulled decisively away from Casserstedt on the final lap, and crowned his last racing season with another world title. Casserstedt eventually secured silver, while Ricardo Marinheiro held on to third place ahead of Jakob Klemencic.
„There were not many people who still believed in me. Steffen Thum, Remi Laffont and my family sat down with me last October, and we all agreed: I still have one really great race left in me.“, said Perrin-Ganier after crossing the finish line.
“We are world champions and keep the title as well as the rainbow jersey in our racing team. That is a great reward and shows that continuous, long-term work pays off,” said team manager Steffen Thum after the race.
He also emphasized Perrin-Ganier’s importance to the team: “Titouan has been a central part of our squad for many years – not only as a rider, but also through his role within the team. A winning team is not built overnight, it has to grow together. That makes it all the more special that Titou will now ride his final professional season in the world champion’s jersey.”
