Can long cycling sessions of more than 60 minutes, two to three times per week, significantly contribute to weight loss?
Dr. Ludwig Geiger: However, this only works in combination with a long-term dietary adjustment. Increased physical activity raises calorie consumption, which supports weight loss. Cycling is particularly effective because it engages the entire body while being gentle on the joints. This means that even overweight individuals can start training without a high risk of injury.
Can regular cycling sessions, at least twice a week, lower high blood pressure and reduce the risk of degenerative heart disease?
Dr. Ludwig Geiger: Training is particularly effective when shorter, intensive endurance sessions are included, such as rides through hilly terrain or shorter mountain bike tours. These intensive intervals not only strengthen the cardiovascular system but also improve overall endurance. As a result, the heart becomes more efficient and oxygen supply throughout the body is improved.
Although cycling itself is not a therapy for the spine, can damage still be prevented through correct seating position and proper saddle adjustment?
Dr. Ludwig Geiger: Suspension elements such as a suspension fork or a suspension seatpost can also help reduce strain on the spine. Another important factor is tire pressure, which should be individually adjusted. A physiological riding position can help strengthen the back muscles and thus prevent back pain.
