Karel Vacek delivered an impressive performance today on the challenging 218km long stage from Capua to Gran Sasso d’Italia with more than 3,900 metres to climb. In the intermediate sprint at Castel di Sangro he came 3rd and later in the King of the Mountain at Roccaraso he managed 3rd place as well. At the intermediate sprint at Bussi sul Tirino he came in 3rd again and even after nearly 4 hours in the saddle came in 3rd at the KOM cat. 2 climb at Calascio. Karel And 5 km before the finish, he was still in the leading trio breakaway, after more than 200 km! And even on the final cat. 1 climb up to Gran Sasso Karel Vacek led the trio towards the finish line. But just before the finish Davide Bais launched a counter attack in his home territory, but Vacek came in a very well-deserved 2nd, after more than 6 hours in the saddle. What a great result for the young Czech rider, 23 and Team corratec!
