MARION FROMBERGER (Ger/18) wins the MTB worldcup opening event

At the age of 18, MTB’s Marion Fromberger (GER/18) has already notched up an

achievement that many people will dream of for their entire sporting life. She has won her

first World Cup event – only months after joining a new team of professionals. Her victory

in Barcelona automatically places Fromberger top of the International Cycling Union (UCI)

rankings.

Early season success for Marion Fromberger As the riders make it to the Kia corner, Marion Fromberger took over the pace from Ingrid Boe Jacobsen. The Norwegian was forced to chase to close the gap. The pace remained high throughout the second lap with Marion Fromberger hitting the front again at the start of the second lap. On the grass section, Sweden’s Ella Holmegard moved up front but couldn’t hold Marion Fromberger’s wheel. Ella Holmegard came up just short in the final meters, finished in second place ahead of Ingrid Boe Jacobsen. Fourth place went to Sara Gay Moreno from Spain. “It’s great to start the season by winning a World Cup. I honestly didn’t expect to win here,” said Marion Fromberger. “I qualified first in the time trials. This really motivated me to perform well during the heats. I gave it everything.”
